Royal Engineers Association Church Service

This is an annual Church service held on the first Sunday in September at St Martins Church Defence School of Transport, Leconfield this was origionaly the garrison Church of St. Martin, Longmoor.  But the memorials were moved to Leconfield on 1st Jume,1977 when the Army School of Transport moved from Longmoor to Leconfield ending an Association of the Transportation Branch of the Royal Engineers since 1905.

The Service is organised by the Hull & District Branch of the Royal  Engineers Association with the invaluable help of SSGT. Dean Taylor who is team leader at the D.S.T.

After the service our members enjoyed the hospitility of the R.S.M in the Sergents Mess followed by a three course lunch provided by the Cartering Manager in the Junior Ranks Club.   The Service was  attended by around seventy members and their partners from the Hull & District Branch also Branches from Leeds, Scarborough, Bridlington, and South Humberside.

In the front row. are Bill Final, Dave Williamson. Padre Andy Oliver, Rev. Stephen Caddy, Gordon Barley(President), Nev Allison (Chairman), and Ernie Shakesby. Also four sappers from D.S.T. who enthuiscally voulentered to be ushers at the service.The R.E.A. members in the front row were all from the Hull & District Branch and gave readings during the service.In the Back row standard bearers are from the Hull & District, South Humberside, Bridlington, and Scarbourough Branches, and also a standard from the Royal British Legion.
